Holidaying In The Winter? You Need To Read This
When you want to go on holiday in the summer, its easy, plenty of tour operators all offering mega deals for you and the family and a slew of holiday destinations all trying to become the latest hot spots, but winter holidays present totally different challenges and are far harder to plan and enjoy.
There are a ton of horror stories out there about summer holidays that have gone wrong, from food poisoning to half finished hotel rooms with no roof in place right through to nightmares about dog meat being used for the burgers, but few will have heard about the equally horrible stories which come from a bad winter holiday or an adventure holiday that went wrong.
The one thing you have to fall back on during summer is the sunshine, but on a skiing holiday, having to spend your time away from your half finished hotel will probably give you frostbite and although it might be sunny, it will certainly be a darn site colder. Yes, ok, you could just take out travel insurance to protect against most things on your winter holiday, but the weather isnt usually one them, so make sure you get good weather reports and select a destination which has few eather warnings and plenty of sunshine.
Get it wrong and you may be facing a week of blizzards, unable to venture out on the slopes and that winter sports and ski insurance you took out won’t be able to help you at all. If you are really unlucky, what would happen if you broke your leg or cracked a bone? Well, the good news is, most travel insurance documents will cover this for you, although your holiday will be ruined, so it’s really important to take care, rest often, don’t get over confident and stick to the slopes you can cope with.
It’s easy to think you can take on major challenges quickly, especially if you are new and learn fast, but dont be tempted. And no matter how tempted you are or how heckled by your experienced friends, don’t give in to peer pressure to do something you might regret.
If you are off somewhere slightly warmer during our winter months and intend to be backpacking in Asia, mountaineering in the USA or perhaps bungee jumping in Australia then whatever you do, make sure you take out specialist adventure travel insurance.
It differs from standard travel insurance by covering the more riskier things in like like rock climbing and bungee jumping and you will then have peace of mind to try new things, safe in the knowledge that if anything untoward does happen, everything will be taken care of.
