Question by spanner the stig: Did Ewan McGregor’s wife annoy anyone else last night?
Watching “Long Way Down” last night, I found myself really quite irritated by Ewan McGregor’s wife, Eve, wanting to join the chaps on their ride through Malawi for 10 days. If she was already an experienced biker I’d have found it less annoying, but to me it just seemed as if she wanted to muscle in on the lads’ “Boys’ Holiday”. And I’m not even a bloke!
I just think as a wife, I would stay at home and look after our children and let him get on with it, instead of muscling in on his programme. And if she was really determined to ride with them for part of the trip, why not do it for a day or two on the test run from Scotland to London? Instead of leaving their children for 2 weeks and risking life and limb in Africa?
And for that matter, if my husband had broken his leg, I’d be blowed if I’d leave him at home alone and go off on a ski-ing holiday.
Perhaps I’m just old-fashioned…..
And I have nothing against women having experiences etc. etc. – I’m a wife with a life myself, thank you! I don’t think being a caring mother gives women a bad name. There’s nothing to stop her going off on a girly trip when Ewan gets back, I just think she’s trying to muscle in on his show.

Yeah….. Charlie looked well P!ssed about it, but he seems too much of a nice bloke to wanna upset Ewan over it cos he knows Ewan is lookin forward to riding with his wife.

so between them I could probably handle about 10 mins before getting annoyed at them both

I didn’t see that bit, but I find the whole idea laughable. It’s hardly a lads venture into the great unknown with three thousand crew, cameras, hugs boxes of equipment, vans …etc all trailing in their wake. Where’s the fun in that? Also, it ‘s shockingly irresponsible from an environmental point of view. They don’t seem to have thought about that at all..

YES! I am a female biker and have travelled around the world. There is no way a novice rider should attempt to to ride across Africa, it’s tough enough in a 4×4.
AND she’s ruining Charley and Ewan’s blokes time. If my partner wanted to do something like this with his best mate I wouldn’t dream to suggesting that I come along too. Similarly I would be very annoyed if the situation were reversed.
I am hoping that something happens and she doesn’t go.
